Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame has prostate cancer, he revealed on CNN Saturday in an interview about his fight to help legalize marijuana.
Chong, 74, explained that he noticed symptoms about eight years ago.
Despite that, he was only diagnosed "about a month ago," he added.
"I've got prostate cancer, and I'm treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis," Chong revealed. "So [legalizing marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested."
He assured CNN that his cancer is a "slow stage one [that I've] had for a long time ... I know it had nothing to do with cannabis; cannabis is a cure."
Chong quit smoking pot "for health reasons" a year ago, but ingests hemp oil at night "so I won't be woozy all day ... I'm taking it as medicine."
Along with pal Cheech Marin, Chong appeared in several Cheech and Chong films in the 1970s, '80s and '90s. The duo continue to tour as a comedy act.
